A Little History about Classic Warships
Classic Warships was started by myself because I wanted to build models of ships that were not available from the plastic model manufacturers. I found out about resin casting through my local I.P.M.S. Club, when one of the members, and former high school instructor, showed me some of the castings he had done for aircraft engines. Needless to say, I was immediately addicted to this process. This person and John Ficklen, the founder of Blue Water Navy and Gulfstream Models, both showed and taught me how to scratchbuild. The rest, we shall say, is history!
My passion and enthusiasm has prevailed throughout these years of learning, pattern making, running your own full-time business, research, and all other aspects of Classic Warships. My goal is to produce a model kit that accurately mimics the original in as many ways as possible. Things like getting technical drawings, making sure they are correct, and backing them up with photographs is extremely important in the pattern making process. That's not all; Getting the shapes right is just as crucial. Hull form, Superstructure parts, Turrets, even the smaller weapons and fittings are all very important to get them right! The finished model should look like a photo of the original ship; not a toy-like representation.
All of the above is also true in the books I have published. My partner, T.A. Flowers, who is the illustrator, and I both strive for perfection with accurate drawings, very clear photographs, and an overall higher quality at as low of a price as we can afford to publish them for.
To sum it up, I am a customer too!
Thank-you and Happy Modeling!
Sincerely,
Steve Wiper
